ICT refers to Information and Communication Technology whether the term is meant for students, teachers, or the general population. In essence the individual is making use of all tools and devices available to learn and communicate with the world around them and that includes the use of available technology.

We developed this program in 2003. All teachers in the district who were hired 2005 and prior should be certified by August of 2008. We will continue to offer this certification to all newly hired teachers. Beginning Summer 2009, the program was updated to reflect those changes that occurred regarding integrating technology into instruction and curriculum. Like everything with technology, much has changed, grown, and developed in almost 10 year's time and our goal is to keep this certification fresh and current.

Teacher ICT Certification - ISTE NETS 2008 has evolved into a blended professional development experience. Teachers will begin online in our Moodle course framework with Teacher ICT Part I - Effective Classroom Management while Using Technology. This is a 3 hour professional development activity that is self-paced and covers the important aspect of managing a classroom while using technology. Teacher ICT - Part II is an introduction to technology integration, the newer ISTE NETS (Student Technology Standards) adopted in June 2007, and best practices for technology integration. As they review articles and websites they will post to discussion forums and respond to postings from others in their cohorts. They will also develop a simple lesson that integrates technology appropriately with their content curriculum. This 6 hour course is also online and housed in our Moodle. It is a facilitated course to provide for rich discussion and thought processing.

Once they have successfully completed those portions they will meet in a face-to-face PD for Problem Based Learning with technology integration enhancing the lesson plan they develop. This is a two day offering for 12 professional development hours which will allow the instructors to demonstrate, model, and facilitate our teachers acquiring the skills needs to incorporate true PBL into their classrooms. Each teacher will create an individual PBL lesson. We also tied together Effective Instruction, Standards Based Classroom, Engineering Design Process and STEM when applicable to their teaching. In the past the vast majority of our teachers were successful in completing both the professional development and the certification. Some however, would never complete their lesson portfolios. As we have reworked the course our success rate so far has been 100% because their Part III PD credit is dependent on them completing their lesson plan and posting all artifacts by the end of the last day of training.

Teacher ICT Certification is the first course we offer to address the above standard. The expectation is that ALL instructional staff within the CMCSS district will become ICT certified. Those wishing to further enhance their skills will be offered the second level of ICT proficiency.

Teacher ICT Advanced - The Next Level takes the ICT certification done in the Clarksville-Montgomery County School System to the NEXT LEVEL. This online Moodle course examines the best practices from leading experts in the field of technology integration in education. Each area is divided into two sessions / weeks of study with the participant learning best practices from an industry leader then applying their strategy to a lesson developed for their individual classes. Notable experts such as Alan November, Tom March, David Warlick, Jamie McKenzie, and others are cited and contributions from each are investigated with regards to how these tools and techniques will drive instruction with technology integration to improve student achievement.

This online course runs two to three times yearly with up to 25 in each cohort. You must be Teacher ICT certified and work in the CMCSS to participate.
